What if a girl from a Zulu tribe actually wrote to you? How would you describe your daily routine? A reply to Naraneti's letter from our Think Teen Students' Book (Grade 2 -Beginners - Unit 1)
A LETTER TO NARANETI
Dear
Naraneti,
Thank you for your letter. It was very
interesting to learn things about your life in the forest.
I live in the city of Athens in a house
with a small garden. Like you, I also help my mother with the housework but
because I go to school, I don’t have a lot of spare time.
We don’t have forests in Greece. In some
areas, we have woods but we live very far from them. We live in cities with
apartment blocks and roads full of cars.
I have a younger brother. He goes to
school too. He has a lot of spare time and plays games. My father doesn’t
belong to a “tribe”. He works in an office. My mother collects food from the
supermarket! It is all in packages!
It was nice meeting you Naraneti. I hope
to hear from you again very soon!
Best
wishes,
Ioannis
“Writing to Naraneti”
Dear Penpal,
My name
is Dimitra, I’m 13 years old and I live in Athens, the capital city of Greece.
I live in a block of flats, which is built of cement. I don’t help my mum do
all the housework, but I tidy my room and I sometimes go to the supermarket.
See, I haven’t got enough time, because I go
to school every day. I have to be there at 8.00 am, so I wake up at 6.15 am. At
school we learn lots of things, like Maths, English, Geography, History, Physic
and more. Also, they give us some work to do at home. I leave school at 2 pm
and I reach home at 2.30 pm. When I reach home, I have lunch. There are several
things to eat for lunch. For example, today we ate pasta, and yesterday we had
fish. My favorite foods are pizza, an Italian food, souvlaki, which is greek
and cheese pie. After lunch, I usually study my homework. Each Monday and
Wednesday I have English lessons and next Thursday I will start German lessons
too. At these lessons they give us homework too. So, in the end, I have so much
homework to do, and I have no time to help with the housework. Thank god, at the weekends I have no school.
I spend my day going out with friends, playing on the computer and doing what I
like. But I also have violin lessons and I prepare my homework for next Monday.
I have a smaller brother. His name is Nassos
and he is 11 years old. He goes to school too, but I go at a high school while
he goes at a primary school. He also plays the cello.
Now, a few things about my father. He
doesn’t go to hunt because we buy all the food we need from the supermarket. Instead
of going hunting, he goes to work each morning, except for weekends. He works
in a company called Nokia, and he uses a computer for his work. He returns home
at 6.00 or 7.00 pm. He likes jogging, and he plays in a small blues band called
“BBTBB”, as he plays the bass.
My
mother is a teacher at a music high-school. She teaches the children theory,
singing and playing the piano. When she comes home, she prepares what she will
teach them the next day. In addition, she cooks and goes to the supermarket.
She likes going to the shops, going to concerts and attending seminars about
music, choirs and other things like these.
Please write back soon and tell me more
things about your life. I’m already waiting for your next letter.
Best wishes,
Dimitra
Kokkoni (B2)
